The interview done by Jennifer Contino of The Pulse about my comic book work etc is now up.

Here's a quick excerpt.

"Jon Sibal isn't just a skilled inker, although that's what Superman fans must think is his only skill, after seeing the way he meticulously inks Gary Frank in the pages of Action Comics. Sibal also provides automobile illustrations and other "car concepts" which shows his diversity in the art field. Sibal explained his work technique and gave us a few more fine details about inking the Man of Steel ...."

It was a pleasant surprise to log in to my dA and discover a more than usual traffic and comments on one of my pieces. So after reading the comments, I realized my "More Than Words" piece was awarded a Daily Deviation. This is my 1st one and am honored to be picked. Yay.

Thanks to  ~BoltBait for suggesting it and to ^ArhcamtIlnaad for featuring it. =)

Thank you to all who took time to visit and post here and in the news section. I appreciate all of your encouraging words. It was an honor to have competed with so many talented artist and the experience by itself is truly rewarding.

Receiving a congratulatory note from Lolly was truly unexpected. I had to reread it over and over again just to make sure. He also offered me a chance to visit the main office in Hollywood. CA. to pick up the prize. Sure it would be fine to send it but to get to meet the people behind DeviantArt was an opportunity I couldn't pass up.

So my wife and I drove up from the "OC" to LA and was greeted by Richard (lolly). He was a great host, giving us a tour of the place as well as introducing us to the guys and gals behind the "dA machine". We also got a cool history of how dA came to be. So after a while , Angelo handed me the check and we took couple of pics and said our g-byes with Richard having the evil clown smile ending it with "Don't spend it all in one place". =)

Apart from the prize, the exposures was invaluable. Because of the win, I received some great offers and cool new gigs. Some I will be posting soon and some I can't due to NDA. This is the main reason why I haven't had time to post up any new artwork as it's been keeping me busy along with my usuall inking work, which is by the way probably the best stuff that Gary Frank have ever done. Please pick up a copy of Action Comics #858 onwards to see what I mean.

DeviantArt truly was a vessel of new opportunities. I'm thankful to be a part of it.
Through out my art career, there have been so many people who have inlfuenced and inspired me. I would like to give them credit in this entry.

Bernie Wrightson - The first time I saw his book "Frankenstein", it just floored me. I looked at it forever and still couldn't believe that it was actually drawn. Such amazing skill and patience.

Scott Williams - One of the main inkers that have influenced my style when I was starting out. I still use some of his work for reference to this day.

Art Thibert, Danny Miki, and Joe Weems are other inkers that have always blew me away with their style and speed. Each of these artist have their own distinct style which I look up to to get the right look for whatever piece that I'm working on.

Working with guys like Jeff Matsuda, Andy Park, Gary Frank and many others have also influenced the way I inked. These guys have taught me some techniques that I value to this day.

I also recommend for anyone to pick up any of Frank Frazetta's work. He is the master that have influenced so many other artists. Just to give you an idea how his style looks like, it's similar to the movie "300".

When I'm tired and do not feel like working, I just look at these guys's work and that's enough to get me back in the drawing table and start inking again.

A lot of other artist had a hand in influencing me and my style, regardless of the type of art it is. I enjoy looking at Digital Art work these days from Mark(MK211), Jakusa, and Jack85. These guys are immensely skilled in what they do and have pushed me to approach my work in a new way.

All these artist deserved recognition and my gratitude. Thank you all for sharing your work with us.

So who influenced you?
For my 1st journal entry, I will just introduce myself and list some background info about what I do.

I'm a comic book artist by trade, since 1992. The part that I'm responsible for is the INKING. The tools I use are CrowQuill, HUNT 102 to be exact. I mix my ink - Higgins, Black Magic and Black India, and Ultradraw. The brush I use is a #3 series 7 by Winsor and Newton. Technical pens comes in handy for background but the nibs and brush is what I use for figure work etc.

The current book that I'm working on is:
ACTION COMICS with Gary Frank -DC

I just finished working on:
Ms. Marvel and Iron Man with Rob Dela Torre
Wonder Woman with Gary Frank
HULK with Gary Frank

Other titles that I have worked on are:

-MARVEL COMICS-
Uncanny X-Men
X-MEN
X-23
Spiderman
Fantastic Four
Supreme Squadron
Supreme Power
The Avengers
Fantastic Four

-DC COMICS-
Superman
Wonder Woman

-IMAGE COMICS-
Tomb Raider
Fathom
Midnight Nation
Darkness

And many other titles that I can't remember at the moment. I'm sure google will help those that are still curious.

In terms of the Digital Art (Chop), it's been a side gig that turned into somewhat of an extra avenue to express my self. I was heavily involved in the Import Car culture here in Southern California. I'm a part of the car crew - ART N' MOTION with RJ De Vera, Craig Lieberman and Mommy C to name a few. I built my car with a lot of help from friends and sponsors. Photoshop came in to play when I wanted to design my own widebody kit using some existing aftermarket body parts that I wanted to modify. Photoshop CS really helped get my design ideas across to my body shop to realize my vision.

I will continue to upload some of my work in the future.

Thanks for reading.
